Innovation from Tradition
In 1968 Hanns Sassmann controlled the destiny of “Styria” as General Director. Together with close colleagues like Josef Steinbauer he stood for continuity within the company´s leaders, in accordance with the principle of innovation from tradition. This was how "Styria" came about the weekly newspaper “Die Furche” in 1976 and the daily paper “Die Presse” in1992, as well as the new building for the printing centre in Messendorf in1992, where the main responsibility was carried by Kurt Muthspiel, to his lasting credit.
When the “Presse” was taken over, initially in 1992 a majority share of 51% was acquired from the supporting shareholders and since 2001 was then 100% owned by “Styria”, it not only prevented the sale of this Austrian quality newspaper, but a connection was also established to a large journalistic tradition, to which the names of Fritz P. Molden, Otto Schulmeister and Thomas Chorherr are associated. That is challenge and commitment.
