Egon Blaschka was born in Graz in 1922 and he developed a preference for photography. After his A-Levels Blaschka voluntarily registered himself in 1940 as an air force war correspondent, where he went on 71 flight missions in total during the war and worked as a photographer and occasionally as a writer.
In 1951, Egon Blaschka started at the “Kleinen Zeitung“ where he first worked as a Crime Reporter, before he advanced to become a Local Head in 1959. On 1st October 1970 he began his career as the first Ombudsman in Austria. Already on the first day 20 people were lining up outside his little office. His fellow colleagues had predicted a life of six weeks for the job, he proved them wrong: Blaschka didn't retire until he was 67. In his typically tough way he dealt with every single complaint until a satisfactory solution was found. He handled about 60,000 cases in his fight against bureaucratic irregularities and shortcomings. Case) and the local radio station with a weekly ombudsman program, raised his degree of fame, thus helping him that he was always able to attain more for his clients.
In April 1972 he was awarded the Dr. Karl Renner-Preis in 1972. In January 1976 he received the Josef-Krainer Social Award.
Egon Blaschka retired in 1988 and died shortly before he reached the age of 79 on 21st August 2001.
