His career as a journalist began in the same way as many of his colleagues: His career as a journalist began in the same way as many of his colleagues: Thomas Chorherr worked while studying law as a local reporter for the “Neue Österreich” (New Austria). After a year of study abroad in the USA as a Fulbright student in 1951/2, he worked as an Editor until 1953 in the Press Department of the US-Mission for Economic Cooperation and following that, he wrote as Foreign Affairs Editor for the “Weltpresse” (Worldpress).
Born in 1932 in Vienna, he joined the daily newspaper “Die Presse” in 1955. Here he embarked on a classic career: Local Editor, Local Departmental Head and Head of Department for the Background-Section and from 1970, was responsible for the Domestic Affairs Editorial Office. After three years as Assistant Editor-in-Chief, he then became Editor-in-Chief in 1976 for the “Presse”. After nearly 20 years in this position and working for 40 years in total for the “Presse”, Thomas Chorherr moved to the publishing side in 1995. Since the year 2000, he has worked further for the ‘Presse’ as a Columnist.
The family man Thomas Chorherr is married and the father of two children and wrote numerous books alongside his “Presse” contributions. Chorherr was among others awarded the National Award for Journalistic Achievements in the Interest of Youth and was Chairman of the Austrian Press Council for many years and is Vice-President of the Presse Club Concordia.
