For more than three decades Gerhard Trenklers´ influence left its mark on the businesses of the publishing house “Styria”. Born in north Bohemian Reichenberg, Trenkler was a member of the famous “Dresdner Kapellknaben” choir and because of this, experienced the Allied air-raid on Dresden in 1945. After the war, he came to Vienna with his family where he studied Theology at the University and was the first lay-Catholic in Austria to conclude.
Following this he worked at the “Salzburg Catholic University Association” for many years before he moved to “Styria” in 1962, where his career as assistant to the then chairman of the publishing house Willy Schreckenberg began. After Schreckenbergs retirement, Trenkler took over temporary leadership of the publishers and soon afterwards he was appointed to director. On the occasion of his silver service jubilee, Trenklers´ love of books as well as his “Policy for the book and for the reader” was acknowledged.
With the new structuring of the book business in 1994 – the publishing house and the professional book trade group were brought together – Gerhard Trenkler withdrew to a well deserved retirement, after 32 years of service for the Styria House.
